Image
The Supreme Court will today (Monday) hear the appeals by the Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate in the September 2018 governorship election in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, challenging the victory of the Governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola and his All Progressives Congress at the poll. Adeleke’s lead counsel, Dr Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), who said his team had received the hearing notice in respect of today’s proceedings, confirmed this to our correspondent on Sunday. The appellants are by their appeal challenging the May 9, 2019 majority judgment of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal which affirmed Oyetola’s victory at the September 2018 poll. By a split decision of two to one, the three-man tribunal had in its verdict delivered on March 22, 2019 nullified the election of Oyetola and his party and declared Adeleke and his Peoples Democratic Party, as the true winner. But on May 9, 2019, the Court of Appeal, in a four to one split decision of

Ronaldo's New Buyout Clause Revealed?

Image
Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly wants to leave the Spanish giants in this window, and while his previous buyout clause was said to be set at €1 billion, the club has reportedly agreed to lower his release fee. Worldwidenewssam.blogspot.com According to  OK Diario , Ronaldo has reached an agreement with Real to reduce his buyout clause for the current transfer window. The agreement was reportedly reached between the end January and the beginning of February, initially reducing Ronaldo's buyout clause to €400 million (R6.4 billion) and later even further to €120 million (R1.9 billion). Unlike his previous €1 billion (R16 billion) clause, the new release clause would actually allow the 33-year-old to leave the club should a sizeable offer come in. However, this fee is only reportedly applicable for clubs outside of Spain, and not the likes of FC Barcelona and other LaLiga teams, while it would also not apply to Paris Saint-Germain. Right now, the Port

Angry villagers have cut open a python’s belly after it swallowed a 54-year-old woman Wa Tiba, in her farm in Indonesia. Wa Tiba inside the python’s belly Tiba went missing while tending to her vegetable garden near her village on Muna Island in Southeast Sulawesi province on Thursday, according to the village chief, Faris. When her family went to look for her, they found only her belongings in the garden, including her sandals, a machete and a flashlight. The villagers subsequently launched a search for her but were horrified to find a 23-foot-long python with a severely bloated belly just 50 yards from the garden. Faris said the villagers killed the snake and when they cut open its belly, they found the woman’s body still intact wearing all her clothes. Local police chief Hamka, who only has one name like many Indonesians, said: “Residents were suspicious the snake swallowed the victim, so they killed it, then carried it out of the garden. “The snake’s belly was cut open and

On this day...1986 "Diego Maradona..The hand of God"

Image
Argentina v England, played on 22 June 1986, was a football match between Argentina and England in the quarter-finals of the 1986 FIFA World Cup at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The game was held four years after the Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom, and was a key part in the already intense Argentina–England football rivalry . It was also a match which included two of the most famous goals in football history, both scored by Diego Maradona. The first goal, after 51 minutes, was to become known as the "Hand of God goal", which Maradona scored by using his hand. His second, four minutes after his first, saw him dribble past five England players, Beardsley, Reid, Butcher, Fenwick, Butcher (again), and finally goalkeeper Peter Shilton, and became known as the "Goal of the Century". Argentina won the game 2–1 and went on to win the 1986 World Cup with a victory over West Germany in the final match . Maradona won the golden ball for pla

Luka Modric's comments on Lionel Messi after Croatia 3-0 Argetina were spot on

Image
Many football fans believed that if Lionel Messi was to lead Argentina to World Cup glory this summer, there could be no argument that he is the greatest player of all time. However, the chances of that happening now look incredibly slim. Messi’s missed penalty resulted in Argentina drawing their opening match against Iceland before they were thrashed 3-0 by Croatia in their second game. During their damaging loss, Messi was anonymous and barely touched the ball. His frustrations and stress could be seen throughout the 90 minutes as he saw his dream slipping away slowly. You couldn’t help but feel sorry for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. And even Croatian players appeared to feel a bit sorry after the match. Real Madrid midfielder - and Man of the Match on the night - Luka Modric has a few words for his rival. “Messi is an incredible player,” Modric said. “But he can’t do everything alone. In football you need help and it can’t be done alone.” He’s spot on. Despite Messi’

A court in California has heard the 911 call made by a 17-year-old to tell police about the years of abuse she and her 12 siblings allegedly suffered at the hands of their parents. In the call the girl tells the dispatcher to "help my sisters" as she gives details of their squalid house with a suffocating stench, where they were shackled to beds and choked by their parents. The children's parents David and Louise Turpin have pleaded not guilty to torture, child abuse and other charges. Louise Turpin dabbed her eyes with a tissue as the recording was played during a preliminary hearing to decide if the couple should face trial. The girl is heard saying two younger sisters and a brother were chained to their beds and that she could not take it any longer. Louise Turpin dabbed her eyes in court as the 911 call was played "They will wake up at night and they will start crying and they wanted me to call somebody," she said in a high-pitched voice.
